20.10.1 Mating Material/Locating Hole

Items of plant and equipment will be manufactured from a wide range of materials and may have several holes into which eyebolts could be inserted. These holes may not, however, have been intended for lifting purposes. They may have insufficient depth of thread, the material may have insufficient thickness or be of an unsuitable nature for the load which would be imposed upon it. If it is intended to lift an item using holes which have not been specifically designed as lifting points, they must be checked by a person competent for the purpose to ensure that those selected are suitable in every way.
