3.4.1 Method of Attachment
The hoist may be of ‘suspended’ or ‘combined’ unit, many manufacturers producing both options. Suspended types have a top hook, shackle, eyebolt or other fitting by which the hoist is hung and which allows a degree of articulation between the hoist and the supporting structure. (See Figure 3.4.1-1 a) Combined types are usually combined with a purpose made travelling trolley, although a direct connection to the supporting structure may also be possible. (See Figure 3.4.1-1 c) The connection between the hoist and the trolley or structure is usually rigid.
