5.5.1 Application of Machines

Lifting and pulling machines are suitable for a variety of purposes and can be used over any distance, limited only by the length of rope. They are frequently used where a portable appliance is required as well as for permanent installations. It is also recognised that there are applications where more than one machine is required. They provide a means of tensioning as for example in the guying of towers.
