15.1 FOREWORD

Wire rope slings are a versatile and safe way to connect loads to lifting appliances, as long as they are used correctly to avoid dangerous practices and damage. In many cases the use of a wire rope sling in preference to, for example, a chain sling is a matter of the personal choice of the user. There are however applications where wire rope slings are to be preferred to other types of sling and similarly there are applications where other types of slings may be preferable to wire rope slings.
