Although there is considerable variety in the type, characteristics, and performance of slings currently available (e.g., chain, wire rope, textile, etc.), certain principles in the selection and use are common to all types.

This appendix to section 1 of the code identifies these principles and makes general recommendations, but for specific details reference must be made to the relevant section of this code, to National Standards or manufacturer’s published literature.
