2.2 SCOPE

This section covers general-purpose electric bridge and gantry cranes that terminate with a hook. The four main types are:

  1. Top running bridge crane

  2. Under-slung bridge crane

  3. Semi-portal gantry crane

  4. Portal gantry crane

For the purpose of this code, these will be referred to as "bridge and gantry cranes" or "cranes."

This section does not cover electric bridge and gantry cranes that are permanently equipped with specialized load-lifting attachments, such as container cranes, ladle cranes, or cranes with vacuum or magnetic lifters. It also does not cover cranes designed for special environments, such as those used in explosive atmospheres.
