11.4.2 Free Standing

Where runways are used in locations that do not provide suitable supporting structures, free standing runway structures are common. Supporting structures may vary to suit the application and location of the runway. Figure 11.4.2-1  shows two typical free standing runway structures, suitably braced to withstand the dynamic loading and imposing the resultant loads through the column bases only.
