21.7.1 Statutory Thorough Examination

The definition of lifting equipment and accessories used in this code make it clear that the lifting beams, spreaders and frames covered in the scope of this section of the code fall under the definition of lifting accessories. Unless a written scheme of examination, (for guidance refer toLEEA 032 Guidance to written schemesof examination)drawn up by a Competent Person, is in place and operating they must be thoroughly examined by a Competent Person at intervals not exceeding 6 months. Reports of thorough examination should be retained and cross referenced to the equipment’s historical records for inspection by the Competent Person or local enforcing authority.
