5.5.5 Material of Manufacture

Lifting and pulling machines are available with light alloy or pressed steel casings. Wire rope terminal fittings are attached by ferrule secured eyes using aluminium alloy ferrules as standard. Steel ferrule secured eyes are usually available as an option. It should be recognised that certain alloys may create a spark under certain conditions and should not therefore be used in explosive or potentially explosive atmospheres, e.g. mining.
