7.A1.4 STORAGE AND HANDLING

The general requirements for the storage and handling of suspended winches will be the same as for conventional winches. Due to their design, suspended winches are easily removed and returned to storage when not in use. The lifting hook or bottom block should be fully retracted so as to prevent damage to the wire rope whilst in storage. It is recommended that they are suspended by their top fitting whilst in store.

Where it is necessary or desirable to leave suspended winches in situ whilst not in use, care must be taken to ensure that they do not present a danger to personnel and that hooks cannot become accidentally engaged.
