14.11 TRAINING

In addition to the training requirements specified in section 1.10 TRAINING of the code, operative training should take the manufacturer’s instructions into account, paying particular attention to the following:

  1. Operatives should be familiar with the methods of marking slings and with estimating angles of inclination and included angles in order to establish that the sling is being used within its marked range of angles.

  2. Operatives should be familiar with slinging conditions and methods which necessitate a reduction from the marked SWL and should be able to apply the rating factors given in section 14.5.2 Method of Use.

  3. Operatives should be familiar with the conditions which might necessitate a SWL lower than the working load limit, e.g. adverse environmental conditions as detailed in section 14.5.3 Adverse Environments.
